Register your Security Camera
The Charleston County Sheriff's Office (Sheriff's Office) is soliciting your help in fighting crime by initiating the Video Surveillance System Registry Program (VSSRP). The VSSRP permits residents and business owners to register the locations of their video surveillance systems with the Sheriff's Office. When a crime occurs, deputies will be able to identify the locations of nearby video cameras and enlist the assistance of the community to assist deputies collect video evidence and follow up on leads.
Through this program, the Sheriff's Office will be able to directly contact VSSRP registrants who are using video in an area in which a crime occurred. Deputies would ask VSSRP registrants to check their video surveillance system for a specific date and time for video that may show activity involved with a crime, such as a getaway car or the direction that a person of interest was headed. If any video evidence is found, the resident or business owner can contact the Criminal Investigative Division at (843) 554-2475 to make arrangements for video retrieval.

Registration is voluntary and there is no cost associated with registration. Registering your information does not provide the Sheriff's Office with direct access to your camera. You may delete your registration at any time by notifying the Criminal Investigative Division at (843) 554-2475. An individual’s personal information will be kept confidential by the Sheriff's Office unless subject to disclosure by court order. Your information will be accessed by law enforcement personnel who are investigating a crime in the vicinity of where your camera is located.
Terms of Use:
The goal of the program is to deter crime and promote public safety through collaboration between the Sheriff's Office and the communities we serve. Accordingly, all registrants agree to the following terms and conditions: Any footage containing or related to criminal activity may be collected by the Sheriff's Office for use as evidence during any stage of a criminal proceeding. Under no circumstances shall registrants construe that they are acting as an agent and/or employee of the County of Charleston and/or the Sheriff's Office through the program. If necessary, the Sheriff's Office will contact your directly, using the information provided on this site, to request the appropriate video surveillance footage. By submitting this information, the camera registrant understands and agrees to the above policy and terms of use.
